Man and his grandchildren killed in collision with train

Deadly accident
The conductor reportedly sounded his horn when he saw the pickup truck, but got no response.
A man and his two grandchildren are dead after a simple drive in the country turned tragic due to a collision with a train.

Around 4:30pm Saturday afternoon, 51-year-old Donald Badeau was driving his seven-year-old granddaughter and five-year-old grandson through an unregulated railroad crossing near Plantersville in Grimes county.

Although there were no railroad signals or crossing guards, investigators say the engineer sounded the horn when he saw the pickup truck, but got no response.

"The train saw the truck as it rounded the corner," said DPS Trooper Sarah Skrivanek. "The conductor told me that they saw the truck as they rounded the corner on County Road 202."

Badeau and his five-year-old grandson were pronounced dead at the scene. His seven-year-old granddaughter died Sunday.
